To mark Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (7-12 June 2020), Solutions 4 Health are proud to have been asked to participate in a recent podcast in partnership with NSPCC Learning. This podcast looked at how professionals supporting families during pregnancy and in the first year of life have adapted and adjusted their services during the coronavirus crisis.
Katie Worley, Public Health Nursing Manager/Lead for SEND within our Public Health Nursing 4 Slough team, joined a panel of professionals including midwives, health visitors and perinatal psychiatry experts discussing: the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown on their service; how vulnerable families are being supported; and how post-natal assessments are being carried out in the current climate.
During the perinatal period (during pregnancy and up to a year after birth), parents can be under a lot of pressure. They may also be dealing with feelings of anxiety, stress or depression. The effects of social distancing due to coronavirus may also increase mental health issues and without the right support, this can make it difficult for parents to care for and connect with their baby.
