“Don’t give up on giving up. Every time you try to stop smoking, you’re a step closer to success.”
Today, 9th March 2022, sees the return of No Smoking Day, the annual national campaign designed to encourage smokers to quit smoking for good.
It is estimated that the average smoker takes 30 quit attempts to succeed. Just under 40% of smokers try to quit ever year in England and around a quarter of them will succeed. Every quit attempt is progress, giving an opportunity to learn and encouraging smokers to get into the habit of quitting.
There has never been a more important time look after both mental and physical health. Stopping smoking has immediate benefits to physical health and long term will significantly reduce your chances of developing many illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, COPD, stroke and cancer. Smokers are reminded that while quitting can feel stressful in the short term, research shows that once they’re past the withdrawal stage their mental health also improves.
Our stop smoking services can be contacted by texting QUIT to 66777.
Services are able to offer a range of support to quit, including access to free stop smoking medications and e-cigs in some areas. 24/7 support to quit is also available via our Quit With Bella app, available to download from both the play and app stores.
Today is the day to stop smoking.
